Last but not least, the SONATA BIS 12 grant will also help us understand bunyaviruses through the project “Bunyaviral strategies to reorganize and exploit cellular translation” of Dr. Piotr Gerlach (Laboratory of Structural Virology).
As Piotr points out: – With the grant, my lab will study how bunyaviruses reorganize and exploit cellular translation. We will identify host factors involved, and determine cryo-EM structures of the virus-host protein complexes. The output of this project will not only open new avenues in the RNA virus field but will also set the basis for the design of innovative therapies and host-based broad-spectrum antivirals.
