Nicola De Franceschi (Laboratory of Membrane Machines) is another IMol Group Leader awarded the SONATA BIS 12 for his project “Reconstitution of viral double-membrane vesicles: towards in vitro organellogenesis”.
As Nicola explains: – The project regards the reconstitution of viral double-membrane vesicles. It aims at studying the mechanisms of membrane rearrangements induced in cells upon infection from Sars-Cov-2. We will do this by reconstructing membranous compartments called viral factories outside the cellular environment, starting from purified lipids and viral proteins. We will shed light on the mechanisms exploited by SARS-Cov-2 to protect and handle its genomic RNA.
